Winner of the Gold Award 2013 for the best small visitor attraction in Visit England's Awards, this 17th Century house belonged to Cook's master, John Walker, and is where the young Cook and his fellow apprentices lodged. The house is now a museum celebrating Cook's years in Whitby and later career.

Rievaulx Terrace

The National Trust owns this abbey ruin, located in the North York Moors National Park, in the market town of Helmsley. At either end of the terrace stand two mid 18th century small Palladian temples, the Tuscan Temple and the Ionic Temple. The temples are open 10am – 4pm, 7 days a week until the 4th November.
