West & South Yorkshire
The west and south of Yorkshire is part of the county where the great outdoors
really is great for climbing, caving, canoeing, angling and sailing. These are
just some of the outdoor activities available, and there’s unparalleled walking
country thrown in for good measure.
Footpaths include the tough Pennine Way, the
Brontë Way and dozens of waymarked local routes. Yorkshire is celebrated for its
textiles and the wealth of the Victorian era can still be seen in the superb
architecture of towns such as Halifax and Huddersfield, fine bases for exploring
the beautiful Pennine Hill country.
Indeed, if you visit Wakefield, Barnsley or
Pontefract you will find them fiercely proud of their coal mining heritage.
